Exempt from Healthcare Insurance

Fine.

Of course, it means you have to change your religious belief and also become hard working Amish.

Fine.

Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), as a key negotiator on the Senate bill, backs the religious exemption. But is this just for New York?

Fine??

Well, there are large communities of Amish in PA, IN, MD, as well. Will they also include Christian Scientists in this? I was an organist for many years at a CS Church, and most of them didn’t take the medical insurance they could get via their work. That would certainly be discrimination if they weren’t included. I see the SCOTUS becoming extremely busy in the near future.

  2. Hard to say. I definitely agree with the probable “lack of inclusion” with those communities in other states. (I believe I mentioned something similar on Surber’s blog.)

Definitely something is going to happen along this line. We may, or may not, like the results.

Personally, I would much rather see a fast inclusion on SCOTUS’ docket on the constitutionality of this whole mess as soon as (if?) this “bill” comes out of ‘conference’ (cough, hack – we know who’s not going to be invited to be a part of that now, don’t we).
