Daniel McAndrew is a resident of Forest Hill, Maryland, he moved from Erie, Pennsylvania to begin his engineering career in 1974. Daniel married his wife in 1977 in the city of Bel Air and eventually moved to Forest Hill.
Their three daughters, Daniel’s step-daughters, are married and have a total of 9 children among them. The grandchildren get spoiled whenever we can. Some live in Delaware while the rest are here in Maryland.
Daniel’s career began in Aberdeen Proving Ground as a Project Engineer. His next job was a Test Supervisor for a biomedical manufacturer, American Instruments, in Laurel. After that, Daniel went to Maritime Institute for Training and Graduate Studies in Linthicum as a Simulation Engineer and then as a Department Head of Engineering. In 1984 he went to work for Westinghouse as a Logistics Analyst. We were bought by Northrop Grumman eventually, and Daniel has been promoted to Principal Engineer continuing his multiple roles as an engineer, analyst, system administrator, support modeling and a key person among other departments. He was the recipient of a number of awards over the years due to his efforts.
In 1988, Daniel joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Through a lifelong friend and fellow member, he was introduced to the organization and has held numerous offices since. Daniel eventually became Head of the state’s organization – Grand Master during 1996. He was also Grand Patriarch for another branch of the Order. Then became the Department Commander for the Patriarchs Militant for Maryland, Washington, D.C., Delaware and New Jersey. During his long involvement with this order, as a treasurer, Daniel distributed funds to charitable organizations both local and national. Such charities included Cancer, Arthritis Foundation, WBAL Kids, Meals on Wheels to name but a few. He also participated as a Board Member during those years overseeing an Assisted Living home in Frederick, Maryland. After his top posts, Daniel became Chairman of Finance for several years judiciously responsible for budgeting of operations and maintenance of the Headquarters here in Maryland and the Assisted Living Home. As a result of his varied responsibilities, Daniel is familiar with Robert’s Rules of Order (conducting meetings), writing legislation (bills and resolutions), maintaining checking accounts deposits, disbursements and reconciliation as well as budgeting for his home lodge and the Headquarters of Maryland (statewide parent of the lodges and assisted living home).
Because of the controversial nature of the 2000 Presidential elections, Daniel became an election judge and worked at the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company. Learning that his lifelong friend also performed this civic duty, he was interested in seeing the process in action up close and personal. Daniel found that the fine people he worked closely with were equally concerned to do the job right. He performed various duties over the recent years as an election, pollbook, provisional and technical judge.
Daniel enjoys his job as an engineer with his co-workers and friends. He also enjoys his time at home. Dan enjoys visiting with all nine of the grandkids during the Holidays, birthdays and other times. He has fun with his hobbies: computer networking, reading, guitar, lunch with his friends and other activities. And especially playing with his dog, Dixie (a rescued animal), a fun-loving pomeranian that proves to be as smart as the rest of us.
On July 7, 2009, because of Daniel’s political interests and the current controversies in the news, he had filed for candidacy to run for the U.S. Senate. Our current Senator that is up for re-election in 2010, is Senator Barbara Mikulski. Daniel feels the time is right to challenge this incumbent and to offer the State of Maryland a chance to do more. Daniel will gladly give of his time to help, and especially listen to, the entire population of Maryland.
